A weekend visiting family in Switzerland with lunches in Germany and France.
Basel
The Jardin des Plantes is one of my favourite gardens in Paris. We visited on the weekend and caught the end of the dahlias and some beautiful autumn scenes. In the grounds is the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle. The main hall with huge whale skeletons and taxidermy is reminiscent of the American Museum of Natural History, New York. Very Night at the Museum. We also checked out Alchimies by Sarah Moon – a photographic exploration of the museum and surrounding garden. Well worth a look. Afterwards we headed across the road to la Grande Mosquée de Paris for pastries and mint tea. All in all a pretty excellent day.

Alchimies runs until 24th November in the Grande Galerie de l’Évolution.
Westerpark is one of my favourite parks in one of my favourite cities, Amsterdam. I spent an incredibly memorable spring day there with friends Loulou and Jacob back in 2009.

While we’re in the city, this Amsterdam restaurant was recently brought to my attention by new work mate and former Dam local Richard.
The greenhouse where De Kas Restaurant is now situated was built in 1928. It was due to be demolished but head chef Gert Jan Hageman bought it from the council (for €1.00) and renovated it into the restaurant and garden it is today. The space is green, sunny and very inviting. In warmer months you can eat amongst the herbs and take tours and workshops in the garden.

My friend Lisa was in South Africa recently to spend some time with her boyfriend’s family.
Her travel snaps are adorable and I particularly liked these two. The first is taken at Babylonstoren Garden and the second while on safari.
Lisa is a stylist living in New York and her boyfriend Neil is a photographer. You can see some of their work on together over at Hunger TV. Above photographs by Neil Francis Dawson.
I have now added the Babylonstoren Garden to my list of places to visit when I head to South Africa (hopefully) next year. You can stay in one of their adjoining guesthouses, use the spa, visit their delicatessen, eat at the restaurant or just wander the garden.
