I recently changed my Instagram handle from @thesecretgardenblog to @sophia_kaplan

Still the same photographs of gardens and flowers, but I wanted it to reflect my new branding and website.

Some recent posts…

A little flashback to Paris last August.

Sambo and I were in Hvar, Croatia not so long ago for the beautiful wedding of Michelle & Dan. We so enjoyed the hospitality of the lovely couple along with their family and friends, big thanks for having us.

While there we also managed a bit of adventuring, exploring the little islands by boat as well as taking a cute convertible (of course) to go further inland. The island was bursting with life, thyme growing wild under our feet, pomegranates and figs picked freely from the side of the street, flowering fennel towering above us, the sweet scent of rosemary filling the air and gnarled old olive trees scattered everywhere. Picking wild things straight from the land makes for a perfect summer.

The striking home of Italian home wares maker Maurizio Zucchi. The height of the ceilings and plants along with the flooding of natural light make this a very appealing space.

I discovered this Melbourne photographer via Miss Moss. Lovely flower and plant captures.

Thanks to Deborah Sfez of Papier Mache magazine for sharing this with me.

This is the last of the summer travel posts. I can’t wait until next years adventures.

In September I did a roadtrip with some friends from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. We stayed in the Majave Desert before heading to Death Valley. Even though it was the end of summer Death Valley was still incredibly hot – mid 40s almost all day and not dropping much at night. It was interesting to see what nature survived and thrived in this brutal climate.

DesertDriving through the Joshua tree plains was like being on another planet. Going off road we stumbled upon abandoned mines and cattle yards, eery when we felt so alone.

CaliforniaDesertWe slept in some curious places and met a lot of weird and wonderful people. It was a good crew to road trip with.

We are about to venture into the California desert but while I’m still sitting in a nice hotel in my robe in Las Vegas, I can post some pics from New York. As per usual we basically just ate our way through the city. We stayed in a beautiful apartment in Soho with giant palms, caught up with loads of friends, visited Union Square Park Market, went to a few shows at New York Fashion Week, partied on rooftops, and visited a bunch of little gardens.

Paris is the city of my dreams and I am so incredibly happy to be back here again.

Keeping our priorities straight, on the day of my arrival my sister and I went to the Marché aux fleurs on Ile de la Cité to get some plants and herbs for our apartments. Walking back with our arms full of green we could not stop smiling.

ParisParisParisParisParisToday the sun came out so we cruised around town in Pierre’s little 1984 Volkswagen and then took a stroll through the Jardin du Luxembourg. Plenty more Paris to come!
