Horticultured Cities explores urban and community gardens across 15 different countries. With photographs by Finnish photographer Maija Astikainen and an essay by German researcher Aischa Berg, the book launches August 21 at Omenapuutalo in Helskini. Check out Maija’s website for more details.

Recently I spent a morning in the OzHarvest garden harvesting herbs and veggies. The garden is run by Sarah of Grow Eat Enjoy, and was overflowing with goodies like flowering thyme, rainbow chard, basil, cavelo nero, cucumbers and kale.

Broadsheet did a write up earlier this week about community gardens in Sydney, with some great pics of Charlie’s Garden in Darlington. The gardens make use of forgotten parcels of land and are a great way of bringing communities together, recycling food waste and providing delicious fresh produce for those involved.
